Such names as Lyon, Bull, Buck, etc., may have been borrowed from armorial bearings, the shields and banners of war, or for a resemblance to those animals noted for courage, agility, or swiftness, or from signs and emblems over shops and inns.

Buck and Cappel genealogy information

These documents were given to me by Stuart and Billie Buck and may shed some light on the Cappel and Buck ancestry. They were compiled in 1959 with verbal confirmation by some of our relatives including my grandfather Dr. Gurdon Buck. It appears that the Bucks originated in England and the Cappels in Germany. But I am sure that this is only part of the story. I expect Ruthanne, Jane and Helen Buck to assist me in researching our genealogy and publishing it to this website so that it can be preserved and shared.

Our Great, Great Grandfather "Henry Buck"

Henry Buck, Sr, was one of three brothers. He was born in Wilson County, TN on March 15, 1815 and died November 10, 1876 in Crockett County, TN. He married Martha Joanna Standfield on January 25, 1838. They had 12 children. One of his sons is William Powell Buck who is our great grandfather. One of William's sons was Gurdon Buck, our grandfather and father to Gurdon" Pete" Buck, Jr., our father.
Henry Buck, Sr. settled in Chestnut Bluff, TN near Halls, TN. He came to Haywood County with parents about 1826. In Oct 1840 he purchased 400 acres for $40 in Haywood County, TN, from his brother in law and sister, Anderson and Caroline Turpin, former land of Cornelius Buck, Henry's father.
In August 1843, he purchased from his brother Franklin, another 400 acres which was also oringinally owned by Cornelius Buck, his father. This land became part of Crockett County, TN which was formed in 1845 from parts of Haywood, Dyer, Gibson and Madison Counties. Henry was elected as Magistrate of the newly formed Crockett County. His occupation was a farmer.

Buck Family Blog debut

This is the Buck family Blog debut. I started this on a whim to allow internet communication with family members and to share photos. The Buck Family refers to Kay Buck, Mike Buck, Ruthanne Buck, Jane Buck and Helen Buck. All other relatives and friends are welcome to our site. I am just learing how to put together a Blog so there may be mistakes or room for improvement. I hope to post a few photos to begin.
